Another worthwhile charitable effort....
Here I gave my charity suggestions for Blog for Relief Day. But I just found out about another relief effort that I just have to promote.
Soldiers' Angels have set up a relief fund for military service members and their families who are affected by the Hurricane. Here's a list of the military bases in the affected area, off the map next to my desk at work...
Navy (which probably includes the Marines)
New Orleans NASJRB, LA
New Orleans NSA, LA
Gulfport NCBC, LA
Pascagoula NS, MS
Army
Jackson Barracks ARNGB, LA
Air Force
Keesler AFB, MS
Gulfport-Biloxi IAP/ANG, MS
Coast Guard
New Orleans CGISC, LA
Mobile CGATC, AL
Mobile CGC/B, AL
DoD
Gulfport Armed Forces Retirement Home, MS
As you can see, there are many military members in the affected areas. Deployed Louisiana reservists are due to return home from Iraq next week, but to what? The Coast Guard, even as they are plucking people out of the water, report that some of their own are missing. Keesler AFB has no livable base housing, the commisary and base exchange both had six feet of water inside and all the aircraft hangars have been reduced to just the frames. The picture at the top of this post was the view in front of the base commissary at Keesler on Monday (you can see the top of the building at the back of the photo). Those who do so much for us now need our help.

Veteran's Day is November 11th and I hope that EVERY American will be flying the flag in honor of our troops fighting in Iraq and around the world to preserve our freedoms!
I can even tell you where to get one for free! Visit AmericanFlags.com right now and they'll send you a FREE American Flag. These flags were $19.99, but now they are FREE. You pay just for shipping/handling and they'll ship one to your door. (Actually - I've ordered more than 20 from them to give to my neighbors, as gifts, etc!)
